Learning FingerSums

How We Teach FingerSums

Organized in easy-to-learn lessons

FingerSums training consists of a total of 63 lessons in 10 chapters.

The addition techniques are taught in the first 5 chapters.

The subtraction techniques are taught in the second 5 chapters.

Watch the animation to learn

All the lessons use animation and sound to teach FingerSums techniques.

The animation speed can be adjusted to suit your child.

You control them using these buttons: "Start", "Stop", "Play", "Repeat".

Interact with the app and learn

All the lessons are interactive.

If you answer wrongly while practising, you can tell FingerSums to show you the correct way of using the fingers to answer the question.

You can even tell it to repeat it as many times as you want. It's that good.

Lessons have three stages:
Learn, Practice, Test

There are 3 stages of training in each lesson: Learn, Practice, Test.

In the Learn mode, your child will be shown the technique.

In the Practice mode, your child will practice the method. Questions will be given for your child to answer. If your child does not get the answer correct, you can use the "Show Me" button to demonstrate how the question should be answered.

In the Test mode, your child will take a test based on the current lesson's techniques.

Instructions will guide you

All lessons have training instructions.

After you complete a portion of the training, instructions will appear to tell you what to do next.

We teach through the Internet

A continuous internet connection is required. All your FingerSums data is stored in the cloud.
(We do not collect any of your personal information.)

Only the current lesson is downloaded to keep your internet usage low.

Pictures and videos are not downloaded while training. They are installed when you install the FingerSums app.

Teaching Your Child

How old should my child be?

Your child should be between 5 to 8 years old.

If your child is younger than 5 years of age but can already add and subtract, your child is ready to learn FingerSums.

How many minutes should we spend on each lesson?

Because a child’s attention span is not very long, you should spend between 5 – 30 minutes for each lesson.

Some lessons will be shorter and some will be longer, depending on the lesson.

By reading the lesson instructions, you will be able to figure out how easy the lesson is.

Do I need to be with my child during FingerSums training?

Yes, you need to; your child will need guidance from you.

How often should I train my child?

We recommend you train your child every day if possible.

If you are working, you could set aside 15-30 minutes every day. It's flexible.

Try to teach your child daily. It creates a good habit in your child.

What if my child cannot complete all the questions in a Practice session?

You can stop the practice at any time.

When you login the next time, the Online-Trainer will remember which question you left off at, and will continue from there.

Do I need any other stationery such as pen, paper, or calculator?

No, you do not need any other stationery or tools.
